A Mountain of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a multitude of activities much better than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and employing patience techniques to avoid yelling at family members. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy announcements came out over the festive period, and should you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which might be a positive development. However, the main art for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio known for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Right after the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
