Miami put up 86 first-half points versus the Grizzlies
Miami Heat secured a crushing 146-114 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies in their initial basketball match since player Rozier was arrested over suspected unlawful gambling.
Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also arrested in connection with a sweeping FBI investigation into sports betting. Both men deny the claims.
But, the Heat were not distracted as they put up 86 first-half points to be ahead of the Grizzlies by thirty-nine at halftime, the biggest halftime lead in the franchise's 37 year existence.
Adebayo led the way with twenty-four scores and later stated Rozier had the team's full backing.
"We stand behind him. Full support," Adebayo stated. "You support him through and through. He's like family ultimately."
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Terry is somebody who is very dear to all of us. He has made a real positive impact on our locker room.
"We send our thoughts and support for him as he goes through the situation."
The Trail Blazers also secured their initial match after the detentions, with Brazil-born Tiago Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and leading the squad to a convincing 139-119 victory over the Warriors.
"We all had positive times with Chauncey and how he coached," Splitter said. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' by Arrests
Addressing the detentions for the first time, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was "very upset" by the events of the past few days.
"Nothing is more critical to the league and its fans than the integrity of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."
Silver further mentioned an NBA investigation into the player's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a match he played for the Hornets against the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.
"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he added.
"We investigated that situation and were very transparent about it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, honestly, found no evidence.
"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the NBA is unable to.
"Therefore, we've been working with them since then. And, of course, what they revealed yesterday was an charge.
"Moreover 30 months after, he has not been found guilty of anything, in fairness to Rozier.
"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance in this case between protecting people's rights and investigating."
