A National Design and Historic Logo

The fresh livery incorporates a patriotic colour scheme to represent the Union Flag and will be applied on rolling stock, at railway stations, and across its website and app.

Notably, the symbol is the recognisable double-arrow symbol historically used by the national rail network and originally created in the 1960s for British Rail.

A Rollout Timeline

The implementation of the branding, which was designed by the department, is expected to occur gradually.

Travellers are expected to start spotting the freshly-liveried trains throughout the network from the coming spring.

In December, the design will be showcased at major stations, such as Leeds City.

A Path to Renationalisation

The proposed law, which will enable the creation of GBR, is presently making its way through the legislative process.

The government has stated it is renationalising the railways so the network is "run by the public, working for the public, not for profit."

GBR will consolidate the running of train services and tracks and signals under a unified structure.

The department has stated it will unify 17 various bodies and "eliminate the frustrating red tape and poor accountability that has long affected the railways."

Digital Features and Existing Public Control

The rollout of Great British Railways will also feature a comprehensive app, which will allow customers to view schedules and purchase tickets free from booking fees.

Passengers with disabilities users will also be have the option to use the application to book support.

A number of operators had already been taken into public control under the previous government, including Northern.

There are currently seven train operators now in public control, representing about a third of passenger trips.

In the past year, South Western Railway have been brought into public ownership, with more anticipated to follow in 2026.

Ministerial and Industry Response

"The new design isn't just a paint job," said the Transport Secretary. It represents "a new railway, leaving behind the problems of the past and focused completely on delivering a genuine public service."

Rail representatives have responded positively to the focus to enhancing services.

"The industry will continue to collaborate with industry partners to support a smooth transition to Great British Railways," a representative added.
